I quickly learnt that hiking in the Arctic comes with challenges. Yet, the hikes in the Lofoten Islands left a lasting impression. It&#8217;s a small but mighty summit with fantastic views of the sea. The hike starts near a small settlement named Myrland near Myrland Beach on Flakstad\u00f8ya Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hornet can be done in as little as two hours, which is great if you\u2019re looking for the best view-to-effort ratio. Because of that, it&#8217;s a great spot to watch sunsets. Vestervika, which lies parallel to Kvalvika, can be considered its quiet sister. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trail to Vestervika is the perfect beginner hike. The hike to the beach and back only gains 300 meters of elevation over 8 kilometres. This means no steep and strenuous ascents or knee-busting descents. Vestervika also receives a small percentage of the traffic that Kvalvika does. My judgment might be clouded because I spent a week locked in a small campervan with my dog and a friend, facing relentless rain, winds, and cold temperatures even though it was the middle of July. Of all the hikes I enlisted here, It has the most elevation gain.
