By world standards, it&#8217;s a rather large town than a city. Nevertheless, Stavanger has an international airport and an international ferry terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are coming from mainland Europe, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.directferries.com\/norway.htm?dfpid=4920&amp;affid=1\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.directferries.com\/norway.htm?dfpid=4920&amp;affid=1\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">book an overnight ferry<\/a> with a sleeping cabin that leaves Hirtsthals in Denmark. The only way to see its full glory is by hiking the 8 8-kilometre roundtrip <a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/preikestolen-hiking-guide\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"15341\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hike to Preikestolen<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daily buses leave Stavanger at regular intervals and bring keen hikers to the trailhead. Because of its rainy weather, raincoats are considered formal attire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two most popular places in the city are the Bryggen, a series of colourful buildings lining the V\u00e5gen harbour (pictured above), and the Ulriken Cable Car, which takes you high above the city and offers nice views over Bergen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My favourite way to explore cities is by joining a walking tour run by a local.
