the next destination I wanted to write about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the borders finally re-opened, I made the 3000 km drive from Austria to Lofoten in my campervan with Jasper, intending to spend the next two months there. Long story short, I quit after six weeks. If you can plan a spontaneous trip when the weather forecast is good, then do so. I will try to do the same when I visit again one day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if the forecast is bad, think twice about going. The Lofoten Islands are very expensive, and the last thing you want is to put your money down the drain and have your holidays ruined by bad weather. The rest was a combination of cold, rain, and wind. I hated the weather up there so much that my frustration levels reached a zenith, and I left from one day to the next, cutting my trip short by a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#8217;t want to be a negative Nancy here. The Lofoten Islands are magical, and I don&#8217;t regret my time there, but I also want to be transparent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#24ad9936\"><strong>TIP:<\/strong> The picture-perfect Lofoten Islands you see on Instagram with sunny days and turquoise waters are highly curated. First, catch an internal flight from Oslo, Bergen, \u00c5lesund, or Trondheim up to Bod\u00f8, then catch a ferry to Moskenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is perfect if you want to follow one of <a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/category\/norway-road-trip-itineraries\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/category\/norway-road-trip-itineraries\/\">my itineraries for southern Norway<\/a> first, then spend a few days in the Lofoten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"option-2-fly-directly-to-leknes\">Option 2: Fly directly to Leknes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Leknes is the biggest town on Vestv\u00e5g\u00f8y Island and has its little airport. That&#8217;s where most tourist highlights are, including the village of Reine, the hike to Ryten, and Unstad Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#24ad9936\"><strong>TIP:<\/strong> If you only have five days, don&#8217;t try to see all of the Lofoten Islands. You will spend most of your time driving instead of enjoying nature and landscapes. You can rent a campervan in Bod\u00f8 and bring it on a ferry. I did it late afternoon and stayed until the golden hour before the storm rolled in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trailhead is located on the western side of the Ramsvik tunnel, only a 5-minute drive from the ferry terminal. However, you must park your vehicle in Reine Village first and then walk to the trailhead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reinbringen hike is known for two things: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The jaw-dropping views of the Fjords. I won&#8217;t exaggerate when I say this was the most beautiful view ever.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The million steps that you need to tackle to get to the top. Unfortunately, accommodation prices have risen with it. You will need a big budget if you want to stay in Reine. The peak is on Flakstad\u00f8ya Island and stands high above the famous Kvalvika Beach and Vestervika Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a rare sunny day, there is usually a pilgrimage of people going to the top. I was there for sunset together with dozens of other hikers. There are several ways to get to the summit. favourite <a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/day-hikes-in-the-lofoten-islands\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"14238\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hike in the Lofoten Islands<\/a> if it hadn&#8217;t been for the mishap I had at the top. I accidentally dropped my camera. It rolled down the mountain and off the cliffside. All my photos from the previous days were lost in seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bad memories aside, the <a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/flakstadtind-hike-lofoten-islands\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"25670\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hike to Flakstadtind<\/a> Summit is pretty awesome and has far fewer crowds than Ryten or Reinebringen. I only met a few other hikers on the way to and from the summit. You gain elevation quickly, and the paths are steep. The hike to Hestr\u00e6va is the opposite. It is quite gentle, which is a welcomed change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you <a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/hestraeva-hike-lofoten-islands\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"25676\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hike to Hestr\u00e6va<\/a> on a sunny day, you will be graced with fantastic views towards the Flakkstadpollen Bay. This will make the trail slightly longer but less steep, and you will have great views from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I fondly remember this trail, as I did it with Jasper and three of my friends. After a straight week of storms, heavy rain, and cold temperatures, the sun finally came out. You only gain ca. 300 meters of elevation on this hike, yet you still get to stand on a little summit with a 360-degree view around you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hornet is actually on Flakstad\u00f8ya Island, but its trailhead is only a 20-minute drive from the previously-mentioned Offers\u00f8ykamen. A balmy 5 degrees Celsius in mid-July<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Unstad Beach is primarily famous for surfing, but you don&#8217;t need to be a surfer to enjoy the beach and its surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a lovely coastal walk from Unstad Beach to Eggum, or you can watch the sunset and photograph the surfers brazing in the cold Arctic waters for a chance to surf that perfect wave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#24ad9936\"><strong>TIP:<\/strong> Visit the Unstad Arctic Surf Pub &amp; Caf\u00e9 and try their cinnamon buns.
