This starting point is advisable for one main reason &#8211; it&#8217;s higher.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting to Ponte di Rucurto by car<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>From Cortina D&#8217;Ampezzo, follow regional road no. 48 towards Passo Falzarego, then turn left onto provincial road no. 638 towards Passo Giau. The distance from Cortina to the trailhead is 10 kilometres, and it takes approximately 15 minutes to drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a small parking area next to the trailhead and roadside parking spaces, where many people leave their cars. This is a busy trail so make sure to come early in the morning, otherwise, you risk not finding a spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting to Ponte di Rucurto by bus<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>During the summer season, approx. Mid-June &#8211; September buses are running daily between Cortina and Passo Giau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nearest bus stop to the trailhead is called <em>Pian Del Pantan<\/em>. The journey from Cortina takes approximately 22 minutes. It adds an extra 200 meters of ascent and doesn\u2019t increase the splendour of the scenery. Although there&nbsp;might be&nbsp;fewer people for the first 45 minutes, in my eyes, it\u2019s not worth the extra effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_In_which_direction_should_the_Croda_da_Lago_circuit_be_hiked\"><\/span>4. This is also where the&nbsp;route connects with the path&nbsp;from the lower trailhead (Ponte Pezie de Par\u00fa), which I mentioned earlier.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trail switchbacks steadily uphill, but the views provide constant motivation. There is a great lookout, only a minute-long detour away from the trail, which gives views over Cinque Torri, Cortina, and the beautiful Tofana di Rozes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although still initially uphill, the trail now lessens in grade, and soon enough, you\u2019ll enter the \u2018official grounds\u2019 near Lago Federa. A sign prohibiting freedom camping will welcome you near the shoreline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will arrive at the northeast corner of the small lake. If you keep going straight, you will quickly reach the hut. However, I recommend turning right and walking around the shore, admiring the reflecting Beco De Mezodi in the distance. The route continues to ascent, but it is still on path no. 434, until reaching Forcella Ambrizzola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the point where the Croda da Lago circuit breaks away from the world-famous <a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/alta-via-one-guide-part-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"623\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alta Via 1<\/a> by turning right onto path no. 436 and then shortly right again onto path no. 435.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are probably thinking now, how will I find all these trails? Don&#8217;t worry. The descent is quite sharp, and you must take significant steps to navigate the boulder field. Once past the Forcella, the route quickly descends through several boulder fields before entering a thickening larch forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the right time of year, dreams are made of this: a trickling stream, golden larches, very few people, and stark mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, like most things, the solitude ends when you reach the main fork, which you were at earlier in the day during stage 1 of the path.
