However, if one makes a significant impression, I like to show it to my friends. Few realize that one of its summits, Cima Cadin,<\/span> is\u00a0relatively easy to access\u00a0thanks to a network of ladders installed along one of its faces. Before reaching Antorno Lake, you will see a sign for Rifugio Fonda Savio&nbsp;leading onto an unpaved forest road. There is an ample&nbsp;free parking area&nbsp;where you can leave your car.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">By bus<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The closest bus stop to the trailhead is Lago Antorno, which I marked on the map. During the summer season, bus line no. 30 frequently operates along this route, coming from Cortina D&#8217;Ampezzo (and stopping in Misurina along the way).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cc-m-header-12429377799\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_closest_towns_to_Via_Ferrata_Merlone\"><\/span>The closest towns to Via Ferrata Merlone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Misurina-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23940\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Misurina-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Misurina-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Misurina-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Misurina.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lake Misurina and the few hotels that surround it<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although\u00a0Misurina is the closest town, it&#8217;s tiny<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">, and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/searchresults.en.html?city=-121853&amp;aid=1188554&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hotels here<\/a>\u00a0are booked<\/span> well in advance. If you want to be as close as possible, make a reservation early.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also stay in <a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/best-things-to-do-in-cortina-dampezzo\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"22987\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cortina D&#8217;Ampezzo<\/a>, the next biggest town and a great hub to base yourself on if you plan on exploring the Dolomites. It takes around 30 minutes to drive from Cortina to the Fonda Savio car park. It&#8217;s well-maintained and signposted, so getting lost is almost impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will see the hut around two-thirds of the way up. The incline is steady, at times steep. After a couple hundred meters, the South face of the Tre Cime will slowly emerge from behind the spires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The path eventually stops abruptly. Until now, you were walking on the right side of the gully, but you will have to cross to the other side and keep your eyes peeled for the ladders and cables attached to the face of Cima Cadin &#8211; your objective for today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"940\" height=\"627\" src=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Alta_Via_4_Extension_Via_Ferrata_Merlone-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6209\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Alta_Via_4_Extension_Via_Ferrata_Merlone-7.jpg 940w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Alta_Via_4_Extension_Via_Ferrata_Merlone-7-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Alta_Via_4_Extension_Via_Ferrata_Merlone-7-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Be on the lookout for rock cairns guiding the way to the first cable.\u00a0Once you get to the\u00a0cable, you will\u00a0start gaining elevation quickly. It&#8217;s like climbing on a massive scaffolding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wall of Cima del Cadin looks intimidating. Still, compared to\u00a0Via Ferrata Torre Di Toblin, which I completed only a few days before, I found via ferrata Merlone\u00a0very\u00a0straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only real obstacle may be in your head. Circa 30 minutes from the summit, you will come across an airy pathway. The Fonda Savio hut, where you set off from, is a tiny&nbsp;dot&nbsp;far below. The famous three peaks are visible straight ahead. Now, it&#8217;s time to retrace your steps. The way down follows the same path. Make sure to be aware of what&#8217;s happening below.\u00a0Via ferrata Merlone is quite popular, so don&#8217;t expect to be alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you see other people ascending, make sure to give each other space,\u00a0use the ladders only one at a time, and if you happen to set off any rocks flying, shout &#8220;below&#8221; loudly to give a proper warning.
