With the largest international airport in New Zealand It&#8217;s a super convenient location to start your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/2016\/10\/27\/new-zealand-two-week-road-trip-itinerary\/\">New Zealand Road Trip.&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auckland is where I started my adventure in New Zealand, my year on a Working Holiday Visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the first place where I experienced the excellent kiwi hospitality, tried the local food and bought my car, which would&nbsp;carry me&nbsp;all around New Zealand for the next 12 months!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since I am not a massive fan of museums and other man made structures I wanted to invest my time in this city searching for its best viewpoints. After all Auckland&#8217;s skyline is quite impressive!&nbsp;Here\u2019s what I found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cc-m-header-10327112799\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Mount_Eden_lookout\"><\/span>1. It is accessible by foot and it lies\u00a0<strong>approximately 4 km from city center<\/strong>. Mount Eden is the\u00a0<strong>highest non-manmade point in Auckland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is actually an&nbsp;<strong>inactive volcano<\/strong>&nbsp;and once you get to the top you get to see the crater. Not only do you get an awesome 360 degree view of the city, but you can also say that you climbed a volcano. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cc-m-header-10327112999\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Cyril_Bassett_VC_lookout\"><\/span>2.\u00a0Cyril Bassett VC lookout<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Auckland-7-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12168\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Auckland-7-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Auckland-7-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Auckland-7-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Auckland-7.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"javascript:\"><\/a>I stumbled upon this photography location by just driving around on the other side of Stanley bay whilst looking for a good place to take a sunset photo of Auckland\u2019s skyline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was my favourite spot, but the sad news is, you need a car to get there. If you&#8217;re doing a <a href=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/new-zealand-two-week-road-trip-itinerary\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"647\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">North Island road trip<\/a> though, chances are you&#8217;ll have to hire one anyways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cc-m-header-10327113099\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Stokes_Point_Reserve\"><\/span>3. Stokes Point Reserve<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13498\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"javascript:\"><\/a>Located\u00a0<strong>directly under the north side of the harbour bridge,<\/strong>\u00a0and although frightfully windy, Stokes Point Reserve is a fantastic photography location to take capture Auckland&#8217;s dramatic skyline both during night time and daytime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cc-m-header-10327113299\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Skytower_Observation_Decks\"><\/span>4. Skytower Observation Decks<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-9-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13499\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-9-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-9-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-9-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/inafarawayland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Auckland-9.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The highest manmade structure in New Zealand and&nbsp;the only photography location which I visited in Auckland and I had to pay for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Two observation decks offer great 360 degrees views<\/strong>&nbsp;of the city both day and night. The downside is, you will always be behind a window therefore it can get a bit challenging taking the photos, especially at night, because of the reflections you will get from the light inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the lower deck you can&nbsp;watch people doing the Skyjump, but the view is spoiled by the ropes used for the activity.
